I took this outside the Musée d’Orsay in Paris this September. I had been wondering around and decided that this could be a good place to hang out for a bit. I immediately noticed the pigeon and sidled up to him. He didn’t spook. I liked the grey scene and the confusing perspective but was disappointed by the luridly outfitted tourists with backpacks and sports shoes. By chance they drifted off, away from my pigeon and me and then the three grey-suited men all walked by in random directions. It was the middle of the afternoon and I guess I was lucky they were all skiving!

It wasn’t until I saw the image on the screen, that I was reminded of Matt Stewart’s almost iconic image. I was annoyed at first, but if we worried about shooting similar scenes we’d never release the shutter.
